Are You Ready for the Digital TV Switchover in the Leeds Region?

By Vincent To

The West Yorkshire region is expected to start receiving digital TV signals by the end of September 2011 meaning all analogue TV channels will be infective after that. Once the switchover process ends, all analogue TV sets will not be getting any signals, reason enough for all households to start preparing for the changes. The assistant regional manager for the West Yorkshire region for Digital UK, Bill Haworth is quick to point out that the process will be very simple and is expected to run smoothly. He believes that all TV sets, including old black and white models, can easily convert from analogue to digital without the need to purchase new TV sets.

Modern TV sets such as the large flat screen TVs already have in-built digital converters; hence the process will be even easier. Older TV sets however would need to have a converter so that they can start receiving digital signals once the switchover is affected come September. According to Bill however, many people in the region are already prepared for the swap since most households in the region already have converted their TVs to start getting these digital signals.

The team behind this switchover is digital UK, which has planned to effect the changeover in two faces. The first phase will start off by switching BBC Two to digital on the 7th of September 2011, followed thereafter by the other four analogue channels. It is estimated that by the 21st day of September 2011, all the five leading analogue channels will have successfully switched off to digital signals. It therefore goes without saying that whoever would not have converted their TV sets at the time will not receive any signals whether analogue or digital, meaning they won't be able to watch any program.

While most Freeview digital channels are currently in operation, they are not without their share of "black spots", such as Halifax where the digital signals are reported not to reach many households. It is therefore expected that the Freeview digital service will be improved significantly in the region once the changes are effected and all analogue stations are switched off completely.

If you currently get your TV signals via a Freeview box or through an external TV aerial, you will have to re-tune your TV set both on the 7th and 21st of September. The tuning process isn't difficult and there is enough information available on how to go about it. Those on cable or satellite however will not need to re-tune their TV sets since the digital signals are already coming through.

Because the switchover date is fast approaching, you can rest assured there are enough aerials in Leeds for the exercise. Manufacturers are making sure that Digital TV Aerial in Leeds are in abundance to ensure the process goes smoothly and successfully. The switch over process from analogue to digital is expected to give people a very wide choice of TV programs in which they can choose from and more importantly improving the quality of TV reception.
