Google TV as the Newest Trend

By Jim Lee

Google TV is the meeting of two wonderful forms of entertainment which are the internet and the HDTV. Imagine using a large screen HD Home Theater TV with the power of Google on the internet. That is what is now available and more. There is now the option to merge television with the internet, allowing simple access to countless entertainment choices.

With a Google TV searches of the entire web can be done. Then using the TV Listings and apps such as Twitter, Pandora, Android Market, Napster, Netflix and NBA, selection of content and even social media interaction is now possible. With access to Android Market, thousands of apps will be made available. Napster allows MP3 downloads for on demand music selections to stream to the TV. Movies also will be available in unlimited selections from Netflix. Radio with Pandora and NBA highlights are icing on the cake.

It is possible to purchase a Sony Internet TV with HDTV capacity built right in. This format can now be purchased from Sony at prices starting at about $600 dollars. Now if that seems a little high in the price range, there is still the Blu-ray Player option. The Sony Internet TV Blu-ray Player can be purchased and hooked right up to an existing HDTV monitor. This device starts at just under $400 dollars.

To get Google TV, a user must subscribe to Gmail or sign up for a free Gmail account. Once that is established with a username and password, log in to the Gmail account. Send yourself and email and go to the Settings tab, then to the General tab. Scroll to the bottom and find the 'Love Gmail,' text in bold which has a link to other Gmail products. Right click this link and select 'Copy Shortcut,' on your PC.

Next you will go into your email and paste the link in the subject and body of the self addressed email. Do not add any spaces to these links by hitting the space bar, as added characters will disable the link. Next, archive the email and log out of Gmail; then log back in again. It may take a number of times, logging in and out before an image of an egg shaped logo appears on the Gmail logo at the top of the account page. That is the signal that you have been invited to subscribe to Google TV. An invitation email will appear in your email account and in there will be directions to follow and the agreement to click to accept the terms.

After these steps are completed you can start watching all the shows that air on FOX, CBS and NBC. Google TV is already out in Beta testing with a new Android 3.0 operating system.
