Cable VS Satellite Television Deathmatch - Who Wins ?

By Frank Oesler

Now that TV has transitioned utterly over to digital, many people are thinking about changing up their entertainment supplier. This text will go into the advantages and drawbacks of cable TV versus. Satellite Television. The choice will really rely on you and your requirements and what you want from your TV Service.

First let's chat about how satellite Tv Works. Satellite Service gets its tv signals from satellites in orbit. You have to have a satellite dish pointed in their direction for it to work. Once the dish is setup however it can generally get left as it is. One satellite antenna is enough to power your whole house regardless of how many Television receivers or DVRs as you have. Satellite providers can sell the service by taking in the signal encrypting it and then redirecting in at your own satellite.

What's cheaper, satellite or cable?

In general costs sometimes favor satellite over cable tv. Particularly over the past two years, satellite has gotten increasingly expensive. They have been known to raise prices every year consistently since 2000. The explanation for this may typically be credited to the fact that leasing cable gear is way more expensive than buying satellite equipment over time. The difference in price however isn't excessive and shouldn't be the one thing you look at when deciding between the two services.

What are my options when it comes to satellite TV?

The two main rivals in the satellite TV world are direct Television and dish network. These 2 companies are always fighting it out making an attempt to one up each other when it comes advertising and promotions. Generally speaking direct TV usually wins out when it comes to content and dish network wins when it comes to customer service. You really need to take a look at each company's entertainment packages to find out which is the best for you.

One of the biggest flaws of satellite TV is their propensity to go out in stormy weather. If you live in an area which has consistent heavy rain or snow fall, then cable could be a better bet. If you look online at consumer critiques of the biggest complaints repeatedly again is about rough weather service outages. Of course this can at times be attributed to the quality of the installation and is worse in some cases more than the others.

Sometimes cable isn't available in small town communities. If so satellite Television can supply the only nice option when it comes to entertainment. If you do live a great distance away from a city center then go surfing to discover if direct TV or dish network is open to you.

Overall I think if you're already happy with cable tv then a switch to satellite TV isn't critical. However if you don't have any service at all and are looking to choose between the two then satellite TV does provide a bigger selection at a cheaper cost. Just keep in mind what I said about bad weather before making the choice. Another benefit that just turned up in satellite TV lately is their 3D TV programming. They appear to be taking the lead over cable when it comes to 3D entertainment, and should be your service of choice if 3D TV is something you have an interest in.
