The Amount Of TV Owners Is Decreasing.

By Kurt Langston

Recently a study was released showing a drop in the percentage of of households that have a television. The study that was done was done by the independent Nielsen research company. The data shows that from 2008 to 2010 the amount of Americans that own TVs dropped from 98.9% to 96.7% This is the fist time in almost 20 years that a decline in TVs has been seen.

So what are the reasons for this sudden decline in TV sets in US homes? The Nielsen Company found there are two major reasons for the decline. One of the biggest factors is a combination of the current recession combined with the transition of the move from analog TV signals to digital. For the homes hit hardest during the recession they simply can not afford to make the switch even with the government subsidies.

The second item mentioned for the decline is the fact that more and more of the younger generation are tech savvy it isn't that they are not watching TV they are just not doing it from a TV set. The younger generation is consuming media on online through their computers and other devices instead of purchasing a TV set to get the same thing.

Both of these factors have help contribute to the 1st decline in almost 20 years but those of use with TV seem to be focusing on taking what we have to the next level. CES 2011 (Consumer Electronics Show 2011) had its highest attendance ever and home theater manufactures where there by the hundreds with the latest and greatest for you home theater needs. You could find everything from the latest 3D Televisions to the most amazing sounds system around.

In conclusion, if you are worried about TV's going away you can relax knowing that even though there are less American that have a TV set in their home almost 97% of American's still do. And while 97% is not 100% it is pretty close.
