How Can I Watch TV From My Computer

By Mariam Dodge

The convenience that modern technology has provides to our everyday lives is undeniable. The World Wide Web, for example, has evidently given us easy access to communication, information, and even entertainment. Internet TV has been, in fact, a growing fad these days. Now if you're one of the people who keep asking "how can I watch TV from my computer", then what you should do is to keep reading.

In order to watch television from your PC, you will need a device that will enable you to do just that. One example is the PC TV tuner card. A TV tuner card allows television signals to be received by the computer, and it also permits the recording of programs in the computer's hard disk. TV tuner cards may be external or internal, digital or analog.

A digital TV tuner card broadcasts the program in the MPEG2 format, thereby eliminating the need for any encoder. It can either broadcast the whole program or separate the audio and video. These tuners can even rewind or fast-forward the program depending on the user's needs. Some TV tuners also allow the users to divide the computer screen so that they can watch more than one program all at the same time.

In the contrary, an analog TV tuner card outputs a raw video stream that is suitable for real-time viewing. However, compression of the video file may be necessary if the video is to be recorded. The analog type is cheaper as compared to digital TV tuners. But as mentioned, analog TV tuner cards cannot broadcast the program in the JPEG motion or MPEG format, and unlike digital tuners that do not need any form of compression, does not relieve the CPU from any load.

A mix between the digital and analog types is known as the hybrid TV tuner. This TV tuner has one tuner that can be configured to act as an analog tuner or a digital tuner. Naturally, this is more expensive than both the digital and the analog types. What's great about this, though, is that it comes with a number of high-tech features. The latest TV tuner, for example, comes with a flash memory which helps it to decode various types of video formats.

So, how can I watch TV from my computer? With a PC TV tuner, of course!
